Description: This research aims to investigate the performance of skills and competencies of students who attend the English discipline instrumental - subject of the research - in the Higher Education of the Federal Institute of Bahia (IFBAHIA). Search to know the object of study through research into the phenomenon of informational power applied to the Teaching and Learning of English. The main theoretical assumptions derived from a current interdisciplinary: educational and informational. The path used to reach the objective was the case study will help to map the competencies according to the institutional reality in focus. It is therefore with the results achieved with this research encourage the development of new competencies and skills among the students in line with the National Curriculum Parameters (PCNs). Este trabalho busca investigar o desempenho de habilidades e competências dos discentes - sujeito da pesquisa - que freqüentam a disciplina Inglês Instrumental no Ensino Superior do Instituto Federal da Bahia (IFBAHIA). Procura-se conhecer o objeto de estudo através da investigação do fenômeno da competência informacional aplicada ao Ensino-Aprendizagem da Língua Inglesa, sendo que os principais pressupostos teóricos provêm de uma corrente interdisciplinar: educacional e informacional. O caminho empregado para atingir o objetivo foi o estudo de caso que irá ajudar a mapear as competências de acordo com a realidade institucional em foco. Espera-se, portanto, que com os resultados alcançados a pesquisa venha incentivar o desenvolvimento de novas competências e habilidades junto aos discentes, em consonância com os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (BRASIL,Ministério,1998).
