Description: This course provides an introduction to techniques of information retrieval and information evaluation. Students completing this course will have the skills needed to locate and critically evaluate information, to think critically about research strategies, and to apply these concepts to undergraduate research using Library resources and the Internet.

Objective: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: -Recognize and articulate a need for information �?? formulate a question based on information need, identify key concepts and terms -Define, identify and locate information resources �?? understand how information is organized and stored, determine the best research tools, know how to use a variety of resources -Develop and implement effective search strategies �?? create search terms, perform Boolean searches, re-evaluate and revise search results Critically evaluate, synthesize and organize information �?? use a variety of criteria to assess validity of information, organize information in a useful manner, create connections between information from different sources -Use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose �?? edit information to fit information need, understand plagiarism and crediting sources, integrate new and prior information in creation of new product
