INFS 1000:Information Literacy & Research Skills

The course provides an introduction to library and research skills, including an understanding of how information and knowledge is produced in society and organized by libraries and indexing systems; how to develop and focus a research topic; how to create a strategy for finding information; how to use print and electronic sources to locate information; and how to evaluate and cite information found. Successful completion of this course fulfills the A.A. degree's information literacy competency requirement. Students seeking the Associate of Arts degree must complete Information Literacy & Research Skills (INFS 1000), English Composition 1 (ENGL 1110), and the Computer Literacy Competency, within their first 24 college level course credits. INFS 1000 is also offered as credit-by-examination. Consult the College Catalog for how to take INFS 1000 as credit-by-examination. Credit-by-examination is only recommended for students who already have advanced level research and library skills. The examination is very demanding. Credit-by-examination is limited to 30 students per semester.
