Academic integrity is becoming very important today as students use the Internet as their first stop for information and research. Students Google it, then 'copy and paste' not realising that this constitutes plagiarism and could result in them failing. This is an intervention course that introduces students to the dangers of plagiarism and teaches them ways and techniques to avoid plagiarism such as note-taking, paraphrasing, and citation. Students will learn the two commonly used citation styles, MLA and APA. Hands-on practice activities are provided throughout this course to engage the learner
Ever heard about blogs, wikis, RSS, podcasts and vodcasts? You may or may not, but collectively these are known as New Media tools. Did you know that you can use them for your project work? New Media tools are rich sources of information and content as people around the world create and publish content on Web 2.0. This course provides you with an insight into five of the essential tools you might want to consider for your project work. Understand more about the what, why, when, where, and how such tools can jazz up your project. This course also addresses the critical question of how to evaluate information on new media tools.
Information overload? Irrelevant search results? Sounds familiar? This course aims to equip participants with the searching skills and techniques on how to use the Internet more efficiently to get quality websites. Using a hands-on approach, participants will learn how to formulate search strategies, evaluate websites and cite the websites used using appropriate citation styles.
This course is specially designed for teachers who wish to learn how to use the Internet as an effective research tool more effectively. Participants will be introduced to advanced search techniques to retrieve relevant websites efficiently. Participants will also learn to apply evaluation criteria to ascertain authoritativeness of information from websites. The importance of citing and acknowledging resources using appropriate techniques is also included to help participants avoid the dangers of plagiarism.
To equip teachers with the knowledge and skills in planning integrated learning experience for their students through Project Work. By the end of the course, teachers will receive a toolkit to assist them in guiding students during the information-gathering phase of Project Work.

TRAILS is a freely available, Web-based tool to measure the information literacy skills of students in K-12. Assessments are standards-based and available at 6th and 9th grade levels, with 3rd and 12th grade coming in Fall 2010. After registering, librarians are able to create and administer a session. Following administration of the assessment, reports are immediately available at both student and class levels. TRAILS provides a means to diagnose student weaknesses and target instruction, as well as offer opportunities for teacher collaboration.

The aim of writing this marketing manual is to promote the use of the Information Literacy IFLA – UNESCO logo (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The logo was selected from an international competition with the objective of creating an image that would strengthen communication between participants in Information Literacy (IL) programs: those who fund them, the institutions and organizations; those who facilitate the programs, the trainers; and those who benefit from developing information competencies, the learners. The adoption and use of the logo by information literacy professionals will make it an easily recognizable symbol for IL across countries, and will therefore, make IL communication easier.
CIL it's a self-learning course, freely available online, for acquiring the necessary skills in finding, retrieving, evaluating, locating and elaborating informations available both in the Internet and in libraries.
